Our 1st week!

Well our 1st week was a great one! We are getting into the routine... Well sorta! This week thank goodness it was practice! Monday we just woke up early... Tuesday we did a whole day of school work... Wednesday we went to orientation for our homeschooling charter.....Thursday we went to the local big city and went shopping for groceries for the week and did other errands! Friday generally will be our project/craft days.... So today we will be making rice krispie treats and starting our George Washington packets!!! So in a nut shell this week was a bit crazy! But that is the beauty of home school... Nothing really is ever perfect or ever going to be! Things like schedules are a good guideline but don't follow them to closely or it will set you up for a disappointment and you will feel like you failed!  At our house we stick to a very basic schedule... We wake up at a certain time, we do school work between certain times, and we eat all our meals at a certain time and we all go to bed (well they stay in the room) at a certain time! Life is an adventure and a great learning tool... Sometimes it is the best teacher! Life is unpredictable most of the time so you need to learn to adjust!
We will be a little more on track next week and the weeks to come!
Good luck everyone with your 1st weeks!

Our upcoming project

So I have decided that we are going to start doing our presidents along side doing our states and capitals for our history lessons for right now!

So we are going to be doing our 1st ever lap book! I had never heard of this before I started homeschooling and talking to other moms! So our lap book is going to be done on George Washington. This project includes going to the library, reading up on George Washington and his life and coloring some pictures and putting some fun facts about him on a lap book!!  I hope it works out well and I will be posting about it later too! I found a great website that helps you along the way it is........ http://www.lapbooklessons.com/GeorgeWashingtonLapbook.html  It seems really informative! Love the freedom you have when you teach your kids in a homeschool setting rather than a "normal school" setting!
I know that they do projects but we can do this with everything we learn!! Love it :)

1st day back!

Well today was a great 1st day back to school! It also was a very good and productive day! Hope it stays that way:)

Planning tomorrows day includes doing lap booking and a trip to the library! We are going to start our science out with what makes the world work.  Questions my little ones ask is how do plants grow? Why does it rain? How do we grow? Where did the plants come from and how do they know where to grow? Why? I believe that is the best question! So we are going to be doing starting next week a lap book about a few things.  Our 1st one will be about our community.  We are going to go to our local visitor center and get as much information we can about where we live! Our 2nd one is going to be about lizards. You know I have boys so of course they are going to be wanting to do ones on things that gross me out! For history we are going to start with the Fort Tejon history! I read some on it already and it looks like it's going to be a ton of fun!  I love the adventure of homeschooling not only are my kids learning so much, but I am too!

Back to school

Hey there... Long time :)

Well we had our very 1st day of informal school! " What?" You ask.  Here at my house we start our schooling much before the kids of "regular school" do!  "Why?" You ask.  Well my idea is that with starting early gets them ready, and focused on the upcoming school year, and it gets them into a much, much better routine!
We have a house full of night owls... My kids now mind you are all under the age of 11, stay up until 11:00 p.m. no problem.  Then they sleep in until who knows when! So during our school year which almost runs year round, we are on school mode.  Which means better routine and better minding children! So our 1st few weeks of school is basically review.  We go over what we were finishing up with at the end of June.  So it's not a stressful transition to the next grade level!
So I am ready for a fun filled year of learning!
